I was sleeping peacefully last night when suddenly I was woken up by a loud sound. There was a very loud meowing accompained by a banging and scratching sound. I knew it was one (or more than one) of my cats, along with the dog, who were scratching and throwing themselves against the door that leads downstairs to the bedrooms. Before I had time to wonder what time was it, I heard my mother get out of her bedroom and go upstair to see what the commotion was, so I decided to stay in bed.
What my mother found when she opend the door was five very nervous cats who immediately ran downstairs towards my bedroom and a nervous dog too, who was also trying desperately to run downstairs. My mother, who had lost her sense of smell, couldn't smell the smoke and was trying to get the dog to go to his bed. But then, in the darkness, she suddenly saw a flame.
I got up when I started to hear her crying out for my father. "It's on fire!" she said. What's on fire? I wondered.
When I got out of my bedroom I found my cats meowing at me, so I opened a door for them to go outside, which they did. The dog was on the stairs, looking up. My father and brother had already got upstairs before me and had unplugged the device that had caught fire and were taking it outside. There was smoke everywhere.
Had not our pets woken us up there could have been a very serious fire in the house. Who knows, we could have died in our sleep. My cats are heroes (oookay, the dog was a good boy too)
I'm thankful that didn't happen during the day, when we weren't at home. It would had been heartbreaking to go back home from work to find my pets dead of smoke suffocation, or to find the house of fire.
