Artist's Comments

From Juliet Marillier's "Child of the Prophecy" , the young sorceress Fainne is the illicit child of Ciaran and his half-niece Niamh. There's Darragh in the background with his bagpipe, if case you haven't noticed :giggle:
I love how Fainne's hair is often described to look like fire flames, specially when she's angry, that it sparks =)

I really, really like this piece,; so, I'm "attempting " to write a decent critique
vision is debatable for me to judge since I think it's hard to others to judge what someone else has inside their head. I gave it a 4.5 I'm familiar with the series. I like how the tone of the picture is dark but not gloomy. it makes me think of the ray of sunlight breaking through troubling times and a dark path. the picture speaks of troubling tasks and hardships but also of hope and resolve.
Originality I gave a 4.5 since it's all different pictures or parts of combined to make a completely new picture. however it is based on a story already written. not something 100% thought up by the artist.
Wooo Technique, It is an absolutely lovely piece. I had to give it a 5. I really like how much her hair stands out against her dress and even the rest of the picture. very vibrant. Fainne and the gulls seems to stand out most in the picture. Darragh stands out less , more of in the background, kind of he watches out for Fainne while standing off a ways. I 'm not sure that I could suggest anything different to do with this to make it better.
Impact, def a 5. the figure of Fainne just yanks me into the picture I really like how the sunlight breaking over the cliffs highlights her hair a bit. and I start viewing the rest of the picture from Fainne's perspective almost . Very enticing and gripping. also a very balanced work in use of colors, shadows/highlights and perspective i think.
k, hope that helps for future works. Nice job!

I love the final result, her hair is just amazing! The whole piece is captivating, yet I believe adding the textures wasn't necessary - I'd look better without them (I'd have a lovely smooth and silk-like appearance). But the idea isn't very original - a girl staring at the sea, birds flying above her... It's probably the most popular way of showing the characters, for sea symbolizes infinity, freedom, sadness, mystery... But the man standing behind the girl, hardly visible, yet powerful and very important, is a great idea.
I love the whole piece. It carries a story behind it and I'm sure it's a story worth telling.

El pelo rojo...que bella, es una imagen que me viene mucho a la cabeza, una mujer pelirroja mirando un acantilado, el mar embravecido por la tormenta...muy bella!

Oh, it's lovely, especially her hair. So wonderfully red! I loved it.
:iconmithgariel-stock:
Really wonderful. It really looks more a photograph than a painting. The man in the distance really does look like in distance (which is not often achieved). Her hair are natural looking, and with an amazing colour.

Well done, really well done!
